Welcome to Eldersburg, Maryland
Eldersburg, Maryland is an unincorporated territory (or “census-designated place”) located in the southeastern portion of Carroll County. Eldersburg, MD is bordered to the east by Baltimore County and to the south by Howard County. In some places, however, it is bordered by the town of Sykesville, Maryland. Named after John Elder, the community had the name “Eldersburgh” in the mid 1800’s. In 1851, Howard County was formed, and on October 28, 1871, the post office moved to Carroll County, Maryland keeping the “Eldersburgh” spelling. In December of 1894, “Eldersburgh” was shortened to “Eldersburg”.
Today, Eldersburg is well-known as a family friendly, neighborhood community with fast access to both the Baltimore and Washington DC Metropolitan areas. With quick routes to medium large highways such as I70, 97, 695, 26 and 27, it’s not difficult to get there from here. Most large travel arteries go right through Eldersburg, MD.
Eldersburg is also supported by a large, friendly Facebook group known as The-Burg. Operated by 100% Eldersburg citizen administration, this online community is recognized as the official Facebook community of the unofficial town of Eldersburg, MD.
